Why depersonalise the model?

Investigating online versus gallery sales.

These are among several that have been assessed as suitable by a prominent online agent for limited edition sales.

Commissions through online art-based photography sites have seen some steady growth in recent years. While doing some research, it became interesting to discover that deliberately rendering the models as anonymous occupied a share of this large market.

Some say it heightens an evocative sense of mystery and intrigue. To expand market potential, maybe shooting both recognisable and non-recognisable is something to consider.  Alina is very beautiful, so concealing her face feels like an unorthodox approach.

The advice from some well-versed in this market suggests approaching galleries as well as online platforms or considering hosting your own exhibitions.

Submitting to galleries and/or hosting your own exhibitions can be expensive though. There is the high printing and framing cost plus often a cost to display for a predetermined period, and/or a sizable percentage of sales, up to 50%. Then the issue of what to do with all the bulky framed products that didn’t sell.

The upfront investment for an online platform can also be sizable. You still have print and frame costs, but those only incur upon orders. Online agents also take commission on sales but usually at a significantly lower rate of 10%-20%, as an example.

If interested, I suggest you research your specific genre and market thoroughly before investing. I’ve already gone down many a rabbit hole. I wish you every luck.
