I met Juan casually in a hotel in central Vietnam. Aside of his philosophical insights I found his facial features quite riveting. Juan’s curiosity got the better of him, and he agreed to a portrait shoot.
Juan had found a discarded non-la (conical hat) which made for an odd but somewhat intriguing prop. It was a particularly warm day with blistering contrast from a sun almost vertically above in a cloudless sky. I sought one of my favourite lighting conditions at the rear of the hotel, which is open shade.
Having forgotten to pack my popup reflector I used a white towel draped over my tripod as a makeshift reflector. Owing to it not being stretched out sufficiently or being angled correctly, its effect wasn’t that impressive, but just enough to make a difference.
I hope you enjoy Portraiture as much as I do. Aside from it being my profession for over three decades, it is still one of my biggest hobbies.
