I was delighted to be a guest at my dear friends Sharon and Toni’s wedding recently. They had commissioned a photographer whom I knew and with their gracious consent, I was able to capture some images for them.
Some images, turned into about two hundred images! I have undertaken over three hundred weddings at the healthier end of the market so had many to choose from for this little blog.
But this wedding is particularly poignant to me, plus very recent.
The art of the journalistic photographer is to be somewhat illusive and observant while anticipating scenes, charged with emotion.
I like to survey my subjects, almost as a hunter stalks prey. I will stand motionless and not look in their direction for risk of detection. But instead view them via my peripheral vison.
My camera will be poised and ready close to my chest with exposure and focus predetermined.
Once even a fleeting emotion or gesture is acknowledged, the camera raises to my eye in a heartbeat. The shutter tripped, an image captured.
I run courses in various aspects and styles of wedding photography including some of the marketing elements.
