I saw a wonderful fog descend on this hilltop woodland in Wales from a distance so rushed up there. Once there, I was captivated by its creepy and still eeriness.
The colour of light to camera sensors in shaded areas is usually bluer and this varies throughout the seasons. Finding a composition wasn’t easy but after some frantic searching (worrying the fog would lift) I found this.
It’s simply but organised none the less. The dead, horizontal branches in the left third and right quarter of the frame directs you inward, lest a feeling of being spiked.
Once inward, you’re guided towards and between the soft triangle formed by fallen trees. However, its dark and foreboding nature will create tension and hesitation for many to journey further.
Moss is thriving here in an otherwise feeling of decay which I saw as a pleasing visual co-existence, albeit it at odds. I enhanced the natural blueness a little which increases the colour contrast while keeping the pallet simple.
