This gracious and kind lady was the sister of a home stay owner located next to me on the outskirts of Hoi An, Vietnam.
I asked if I could take this image of her sitting on her cherished motorcycle, and she kindly agreed.
It was an impromptu image that took only several minutes. Much of that time was waiting for cars and scooters to disperse from the background.
Taken relatively early, some mist had lingered and was backlit by a rising sun. This, together with a shallow area of focus, created a lovely detachment from the street behind and a feeling of depth.
This wonderful lady’s delightful expression and eye contact are key to our engagement with it.
