In portrait (1) we have positioned my darling friend’s lovely daughter against a particularly interesting, craggy rock that has set out some beautiful shapes.
Placing someone against a flat vertical surface and shooting them at right angles immediately causes issues of depth. Here the image has a little more depth provided by the slight diagonal angle of view.
Portrait (2) of our model sat has significantly more depth. The background provides some scale and benefits from the reduced focus.
Lighting for both images was due to utilising what the environment was yielding. Combined with the addition of a portable Elinchrom and a brolly.
This only scratches the surface of a big and fascinating subject that I am a little obsessed with.
